From Bloom to Brunch
By now you’re probably familiar with athleisure (athletic + leisure), but have you heard of athleisure beauty? This trend blurs the lines between active beauty and everyday beauty with looks and products that can be worn whether you’re hitting the gym or heading out with friends. We figured, who better to talk to about athleisure beauty than pilates pro Erika Bloom. To say Bloom knows what she’s doing is an understatement. With 6 locations spread from Los Angeles to Turks & Caicos this fitness guru has made a name for herself. Bloom has refined her technique over 2 decades of experience and dozens of certifications– including therapeutic yoga, protocols of osteoporosis, muscle imbalance assessment and correction, and nutrition to name a few (the list goes on).
Last week we stopped by Erika Bloom Pilates to chat with Erika herself about this rising beauty trend, how she likes to take care of her skin, and get her tips for a major workout.
Can you tell us about yourself & Erika Bloom Pilates?
Erika Bloom Pilates came to life after I became injured as a ballet dancer. I found Pilates as a way to move my body safely, that also made me strong and lean. I connected to it even deeper after having children. It’s a nourishing, healing way to recover post-baby. Not only do I feel beautiful moving my body when I practice Pilates, my body feels more beautiful as a result.
When you work with our teachers one on one, they individualize your workout, so you are moving in the most effective way possible. You feel their expertise and their care. You will leave your session feeling realigned, stronger, and truly balanced.
All the while, our light airy white studios provide a calm environment so you feel that sense of serenity.
Do you have any beauty rituals that you do before, during, or post workout?
I love rituals that bring me into a more present state and create a deeper sense of joy. Before my workouts, I apply the Aromatic Energy Treatment to my pulse points to create a clearer connection with my body and my mind. I then apply the Resurfacing Mask. I leave it on while I work out. It makes me smile because I can feel it working.
During the workout, I focus on my breathing. This allows me to stay present in my body instead of thinking about what happened yesterday or what might happen today.
After a workout, I rinse the mask, which always leaves my skin glowing. I then gently massage in the Resurfacing Serum, and simply set my intention for the day. It’s usually to move through the world with ease, grace and compassion for myself and others. Now I feel fresh and energized to start the day.
What about non-beauty rituals or beliefs?
Choose your workouts mindfully, the same way you would choose your beauty products. When you move in a way that nourishes you, you are left restored. It’s our small daily choices that create our sense of well-being and overall quality of life.
Listen to yourself, to what your body needs as you inhabit your body. If you release judgement your body and your inner self will always tell you when something is working or not.
When we take care of ourselves, we have space to connect to gratitude, for ourselves, our bodies, and for others. When I leave a workout I remember this gratitude and bring it with me into my day.
Q: Do you lean towards green/non-toxic beauty? Why?
I only bring green and nontoxic beauty into my home and my studios because I care about my health, my family’s health and the health of this world.
Q: What drew you to Tata Harper Skincare?
I immediately fell in love with Tata Harper upon discovering her products many years ago. They are so beautiful and luxurious and they truly work. When I did a little more research on the company, I wasn’t surprised to find out that Tata grows the ingredients herself. Her bottles are filled with love. I use Tata every day as the core of my beauty routine and fall in love with them all over again each time.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do after working out?
After a Pilates session, I thank my teacher, my body, and rehydrate. My daily workouts are a reset that remind me that balance is possible if you’re consistent.
