five green afternoon energy boosts
We won’t speak for everyone, but if you live in a northern climate with short days and low temps, here are things that may be hard to do during winter: get out of bed, stay energized, be outside, and keep moving. Low energy feeds low energy and the result can be quite the vicious little cycle that leaves us feeling 100% ready to crawl back into bed around 4 pm.
Of course we have no fear because wellness junkies and health gurus like Tata prove that you can flip this pattern on its head and build positive energy (‘cause you know that leads to more positive energy). But real sustainable energy, not the temporary high of a coffee spike that’ll leave us even more deflated 20 minutes from now.
Here are five green ways to shake things up if your levels are getting low. If you’re curious, we’ve personally vetted these methods from our cold, dark, northeast nook of Vermont.
Strike a Pose. You don’t need to attend a class to stand on your hands, salute the sun, or forward fold. Moving your spine, expanding your heart and lungs, and stretching in way that massages your internal organs are the keys to boosting energy levels here. Find an empty conference room if you need privacy, or if you think your colleagues will look at you weird, convince them to join you.
Moon Juice Brain Dust. Moon Juice is an incredible resource for plant-sourced wellness that nourishes the mind and body. Brain Dust boosts clarity, memory, creativity and alertness. The ladies in our office deliberately waited until last Wednesday’s afternoon post-holiday energy slump to put it to the test, and we have witnesses: this stuff works, especially for refocusing. Our project manager was pretty psyched when we felt the positive effects about 10 minutes in. And the pleasant earthy taste is an added bonus to mix up the flavor of your go-to beverage
Aromatic Energy Treatment. You should definitely smell this oil. Jasmine and geranium are two parts of this energizing scent that restore vitality and alertness. You dab it on your palms and then take five deep breaths wherever, whenever, and as often as you’d like. Even before exercising! We sniffed some before yoga and it was incredible, unless you want to fall asleep during, shavasana, then maybe don’t.
Matcha. A not-so-guilty pleasure with more caffeine than green tea and more antioxidants than any other superfood. In this mason jar right here we combined a half-teaspoon of tea, six ounces of coconut water, two ounces of almond milk, and a dash of vanilla. Add ice and shake it, shake it.
15-minute walk outside. Usually the thing we think we don’t want to do is the exact thing our body needs. If it’s cold out, layer up. If it’s windy, wear a hat. If it’s wet, bring a change of shoes and a rain jacket. The movement and fresh air will get your energy field flowing.
