Tata Harper X BCPP
In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we really wanted to partner with an organization that hit close to home. Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP) is a science-based advocacy group that’s dedicated to stopping breast cancer before it starts. With a focus on prevention, BCPP works to reduce exposure to toxins in our everyday lives and educate the public about breast cancer's avoidable causes.
Why We Love Them
BCPP founded The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a broad-based coalition working to eliminate dangerous chemicals from cosmetics and personal care products.
The Campaign’s mission is to protect the health of people and the environment by securing the corporate, regulatory and legislative reforms necessary to eliminate dangerous chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive harm and other adverse health impacts from cosmetics and personal care products.
Did You Know...
Did you know that around 85% of breast cancers are not linked to hereditary causes? That means, in many cases, there are steps that can be taken to reduce risk. With this encouraging fact in mind, we’ve teamed up with BCPP to spread the word about proactive prevention. Here are three easy ways to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals & help prevent breast cancer.
Green Your Cleaning Products
Protect yourself and your family from exposure to toxic chemicals in everyday cleaning products. Many conventional cleaning products take away dirt, but leave behind harmful chemicals.
Tata’s tips? Go for the DIY cleaning products. Use baking soda to neutralize odors and soak up dampness, and vinegar to clean and deodorize. Add a cup of vinegar to your laundry to brighten up whites, remove odors, and lift tougher grime off fabrics. Add a few drops of your favorite citrus juice (think lemons, limes, oranges) or essential oils (try lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus) to a vinegar-based cleaning spray to fill your home with a fresh scent of your choice. Green your space with plants to clean the air you breathe.
Go Fresh, Organic, and Hormone-Free
Choose fresh, organic and hormone-free foods in order to avoid exposure to pesticides, added hormones, and other possible toxic chemicals in packaged foods. Buying products grown organically reduces pesticide use, and eating fresh (or frozen) foods helps you to avoid chemicals like BPA in food can linings.
Tata’s tips? Farm-to-plate, always. Here in Vermont, we are big fans of farmers markets and local farms stands. Eating locally (and organic) is a great way to support your and your family's health, with the smallest environmental footprint.
Use Clean Beauty, Always
Unfortunately, it’s perfectly legal to use ingredients linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, and reproductive harm in personal care products & cosmetics (as well as cleaning products and food packaging). In fact, there is very little regulation at all.
That said, we're here to help! We want to empower you to make the best, most informed decision about the products you are using. With 100% natural, non-artificial ingredients, our skincare line is made for uncompromising women who refuse to risk their health for beauty. Together, let’s make a difference!
