Tata's Guide to Provence

Tata's Guide to Provence

The beginning of summer inspires our inner wanderlust, and Provence, France was at the top of our list. Known for its romantic landscapes, fine dining, and home to a Tata Harper Signature Spa location – this trip was one for the books.

As you climb the french hills and enter the town of Provence, you are immediately surrounded by never ending grape fields and soaring landscapes. Crillon Le Brave is a hotel exquisitely and carefully designed around the existing town in an effort to not disrupt the historic lifestyle. Surrounding the town’s church, the luxury 5 star hotel merges with Mont Ventoux to create a private refuge.

Described as a sublime exile, a dozen old houses made entirely of blond Crillon stone make up the hotel. This countryside haven faces the mountains of Ventoux, and hugs right against neighboring homes of locals, making your stay feel much more like an immersive experience than a quick destination. Surrounded by panoramic views of vineyards and olive groves, you feel at home immediately upon arrival.

The Decor of Crillon Le Brave was done by Charles Zana, who has blended the eternal codes of Provence with new modernity to a level of chic French perfection.

Farm-To-Table Dining

The hotel houses two restaurants, La Table du Ventoux, and gastrobar, Le Madeleine. Both restaurants boast impressive views of Mont Ventoux, and are overseen by executive chef, Adrien Brunet.

La Madeleine offers cuisine highlighting the finest local ingredients, products, and wines of the region, carefully selected by Brunet from the best producers in Provence. Meanwhile, La Table du Ventoux offers a bistro-style setting with dishes based on the seasonal best of Vaucluse. Either restaurant offers a journey into authentic Provence cuisine with classic, locally inspired, dishes. Did we mention the chef handpicks fresh aromatic herbs daily from the hotel’s garden? A dream.

A Stone Cave Tata Harper Spa

Step under the arches of the old 18th century stone-vaulted stables, and you will find the Tata Harper Signature Spa. This quiet stone cave spa is entirely isolated from outside noise and daylight, making it the perfect location for full body wellness. Tata Harper facials are adapted to the needs of individuals, and oh so indulgent.

The Crillon Spa signature facial features our award winning Hydrating Floral Mask, a scalp and oxygenating facial massage, and our Honey Mask that’s warmed for an extra-soothing touch. While the seclusion of a french stone cave is certainly an experiential touch, you can get these products in our in-home spa shop and take this ritual to your own bathroom. Other treatments include a SuperKind calming facial, featuring our new Superkind collection, and a Brightening Hyperpigmentation Facial, with our Supernatural Concentrated Brightening products.

In the morning, our first stop was the local market of Isle Sur La Sorgue. This market features a variety of vendors selling everything from food to textiles and antiques.

As our team wandered the market, we could not help but revel in the aroma of fresh herbs that wafted the air. Lavender was plentiful, but the team favorite was the freshly infused cooking salts that featured local herbs from across the region. There were organic vegetables, oysters, fruits, fresh olives and olive oil, and paella cooked streetside. The market featured exquisite Provence made textiles, table clothes, runners and carpets — including handcrafted linen from nearby towns. As soon as the clock tower struck one, merchants began to pack up, and it was time for the next adventure.

The Village of Gordes

With just a short drive, the team arrived at the town of Gordes. This ancient village is known for its beautiful cliffside scenery and is said to be the most iconic town of the region. Just walking around the town is a feast for the eyes, but we found a few new favorite spots.

Le Tigre is the perfect spot for people watching in the evening. The team enjoyed sunset drinks overlooking the cliffs.

La Bastide de Pierre is a lively resturant for a late night dinner and fashionable crowd.

Sananque Abbey is an active cistercian abbey surrounded by fields of lavender. The chapels offered a cool escape from the summer heat, and allowed us to slow down and reflect while immersing in scents of lavender and sounds of soft chanting. This is our top pick for a few hours of mindfulness and reflection.

Les Mas offered farm to table wellness right outside of the village. Enjoy dining on their beautiful patio under trees, rose vines, or moonlight. The understated setting is not to be mistaken, this just happened to be one of our team’s favorite meals.

All in all, our time spent in Provence was nothing short of magic. With space to unwind, soak in the landscapes, and enjoy good company (and good skincare) — Provence quickly became one of our new favorite getaway destinations. Until next time, Provence, je t’aime!
