What's The Tremella Effect?

Calling all skintellectuals! There’s a buzzy new ingredient on the market and we’re here to fill you in. Tremella Fuciformis, also known as Snow Mushroom or Silver Ear, is a smooth, flower-like fungus that’s featured in our new Hydrating Floral Mask. It’s also about to be your new skincare superhero.
For thousands of years, this magical little mushroom has been used in Asian medicine and skincare and is known for its incredible hydrating, healing and skin rejuvenating properties. It’s even praised for its ability to improve skin hydration when ingested, so it is often found in traditional Asian foods & delicacies.
So, what exactly makes this mushroom so magical? We’ll give you the rundown.
Deep Intensive Hydration
Tremella’s powerful hydration efficacy is due to its gelatinous structure combined with its unique polysaccharides, long chains of sugars that have remarkable water retaining properties. These polysaccharides form a flexible film on the skin to help keep the barrier intact, lock in moisture, and smooth skin texture.
In this way, Tremella acts in a similar way to everyone’s favorite hyper-hydrating ingredient: hyaluronic acid. By drawing + locking in moisture to the skin, both ingredients have potent hydrating powers. However, Tremella’s particle sizes are actually smaller than those of HA, giving Tremella the ability to hold 5 times more water than hyaluronic acid. This gives Tremella an edge to penetrate the skin more easily.
The result? Long term hydration, skin smoothing benefits, and a strengthened skin barrier.
Soo, while we wouldn’t go as far as to say Tremella is the new HA, it definitely deserves its time in the hydration spotlight.

And there's more! Tremella also boasts a high concentration of Vitamin D
This mushroom also happens to be high in Vitamin D. When eaten, Tremella mushroom is the highest food source of the Vitamin D precursor, pro-vitamin D. When topically applied, Vitamin D has also shown impressive skin healing abilities. It helps cell growth, wound healing, and maintaining the barrier function of the skin. Basically, it’s like nature’s bandaid.
And now for a less-fun fact? Between the ages of 20-70, the skin’s natural ability to create Vitamin D decreases by 75%. This is why it's essential to support your skin with extra, high quality sources of Vitamin D such as Tremella.
Plus, it has powerful, youth-giving properties
Tremella is a skincare powerhouse that not only has incredible water-retention capabilities, but also essential antioxidants which are both crucial towards helping maintain the health of the skin as the body ages.
Tremella’s ability to absorb into the deeper layers of the skin works to enhance skin elasticity and helps plump & smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Even better, Tremella also has an incredible ability to break down free radicals - which prevents fine lines and wrinkles from forming in the first place!
If that’s not straight up magic…it’s pretty close to the real thing. After all, this may just be the secret to everlasting beauty.
